From a Singapore Angle

A Sad Day for the Singapore Blogosphere

IMPORTANT REMINDER: The author of this blog neither endorses nor takes responsibility for any information or opinion expressed by any third party in any comments, trackbacks or links external to this website. (Ed: Actually, he can't even if he had wanted--how does one simultaneously endorse views that contradict each other?)
The day has not finished--another one takes his bow (thank you Wows, for alerting me to this).

Nothing travels faster than bad news (the list is being added to as relevant entries are brought to my attention).

UPDATE: The following are must reads--
The Law of Defamation, Acidflask's Case and See What I Mean by Gilbert Koh at Singapore Legal Mumbo Jumbo Demystified; the comments themselves are an education in aspects of the legal system! LATEST: Gilbert is closing shop.

UPDATE 2: Convex Set
explains some.

UPDATE 3: A
thread discussing this issue found on Rice Bowl Journals. ADD: Another one on Delphiforums.

UPDATE 4: More afterthoughts--Gilbert Koh
promises a post on strategies for minimising blogger defamation lawsuit risks; Singapore Ink calls for calm and works over the problem concerning comments. ADD: another one on Ink.

UPDATE 5: Cowboy Caleb goes biblical musing upon
the power of the blogs.

UPDATE 6: Justina is apparently dishing out some advice on blogging:
vagueness--it seems--the solution is.
UPDATE 7: Ivan pens some much needed words of moderation:
If there is one lesson we can draw from this, is that if we as bloggers are to be taken seriously, the law will be the first to do that (take us seriously). From then on it’ll be up to us to make use of this medium to serve as ‘citizen journalists’, toeing the line when needed and ensuring that we are responsible in and for our views. Just as the Government’s power is tempered by it’s responsibility; let us not forget that the power of having our views published uncensored, cross border and instantaneously, will come with the equally heavy responsibility of ensuring we are fair and just in what we publish.
